25/365: R&R Tavern p.1

It was the first time I know what a music atmosphere is!
It was the first time I feel a cafe is so boring!
It was when I realize why people love being in a bar!
It was when I was in  R&R Tavern ;)

R&R means Rock and Roll, the music which they play at the weekend. There is a Vietnamese band playing on Saturday night and an American band playing on Sunday night. The music time is from around 9pm to 11pm.

The tavern was formed in 1995, by Ray - an American, based on the thought as to bring some part of American culture to Hanoian, which, as he told me, may partly blur the feeling of Vietnamese about American at that time, 20 years after the war.

The mid-aged man is from Virginia. He came here in 1993 and now married a Vietnamese woman who "speaks English like she is from California" he mentioned his wife like this on the reason why he just can say "a little bit Vietnamese" after living here for 17 years. He has 2 kids, 10 and 5 year old and they look very lovely like angels. He must be a lucky man :)

Ray was very nice when he stay for one hour talking to me about his tavern. It is an extra-cool place to visit. The space is full of music and colors from decorations, rock&roll posters, and drinks. Most of customers were westerners and at mid-ages. They came, grasped one beers then enjoyed the night via the fantastic music and short conversations with friends or just enjoy it on their own, by their ways.

I did not want to disturb other people enjoying the music show so I took just some photos. I may visit the shop tomorrow to take some more. The bar was lovely, worth to try, and deserve to visit every weekend.

One more thing, for any reader who is a fan of Vietnam Rock. The guitarist in the Vietnamese band is Mr. Vinh, a former member of the band "Đại Bàng Trắng". He can be considered as one of the best guitarist in Vietnam at the moment. Chance for you to see the living legend rocker expresses his soul skillfully on his guitar.
